Usage Note
gebären is the formal or clinical verb for giving birth; in everyday speech people more often say ein Kind bekommen ('to have a child'). The past participle geboren ('born') is extremely common, as in Ich bin 1990 geboren. It is a strong verb with the vowel change gebiert in the third person.
