Usage Note

Beistrich is the formal and Austrian-standard term for the comma; everyday German more often says Komma. Found in grammar textbooks and official style guides (Rechtschreibregeln). The two terms are fully interchangeable.

"Laut Duden setzt man vor 'aber' keinen Beistrich, wenn es einen Satz einleitet."
