Usage Note
Bundesland is one of the sixteen constituent states of Germany (Bavaria, Saxony, etc.), built on Bund ('federation'). Watch the irregular plural Bundesländer, and note the prefix Bundes- tags many federal institutions like Bundestag and Bundeskanzler.
