Usage Note
Ermittlungsausschuss (also called Untersuchungsausschuss) is a special parliamentary committee with powers to summon witnesses and examine documents in order to investigate alleged governmental misconduct. It is a constitutional instrument in both the Bundestag and state parliaments.
