weiter

further

adverb VY-ter Common

Also means

onward

Usage Note

weiter is the comparative of weit ('far') but is hugely productive as a separable prefix meaning 'to keep on doing', as in weitermachen ('carry on') or weitergehen ('walk on'). On its own as a command, Weiter! means 'Keep going!'

Examples

"Wir gehen jetzt weiter."

Natural Translation

We're moving on now.

Literal Translation

We go now further.
